Privacy policy
Last updated 8 October 2026. Short version: your cellar is yours and we only collect what the app needs.
Who we are
Winelib is an independent, open source project run by Thijs van den Heuvel, available at winelib.nl. You can contact us at info@winelib.nl.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address and a password or sign-in method, used to keep your cellar private.
- Your cellar: the wines you add, your ratings, notes, and lists.
- Basic technical data: standard server logs such as IP address and browser type, plus anonymous page-speed measurements, used for security and to keep the service running.
How we use it
- To run Winelib: show your cellar, save your ratings, and sign you in.
- To find wines: the text you type into wine search is sent to Vivino to look up matching wines, their images and prices. We do not send your email address or account identifiers.
- To keep the service secure and fix problems.
We do not sell your personal data and we do not use it for advertising. Our legal basis under the GDPR is performing the service you signed up for, and our legitimate interest in keeping it secure.
Future AI features
Winelib Pro, which is not available yet, is planned to use Anthropic's Claude API to read label photos, summarise your taste and suggest wines. When it launches, only the label photo or wine details needed for a request will be sent to Anthropic, never your email address or account identifiers, and we will update this policy and the date above before it goes live.
Service providers
We use Vercel to host the website and app, Neon to store the database, and Vivino for wine search results. Each handles data only to provide its service to us. We keep your account and cellar until you delete your account, and server logs for a short period set by our hosting provider.
Where your data goes
- Vercel serves the website and app and sees standard request data such as IP address.
- Neon stores your account and cellar in a database.
- Vivino receives the text you type into wine search, and nothing else.
Nothing else is contacted with your data. There are no advertising or tracking services.
Your choices
- Export your cellar at any time from the app.
- Ask us to delete your account and data by emailing info@winelib.nl.
- If you live in the EU or EEA you also have the rights to access, correct, restrict and erase your data under the GDPR, and to complain to your data protection authority, in the Netherlands the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
Age
Winelib is for people of legal drinking age in their country. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above.
